In January, we launched the Wrestling With Words/Puro In The Rough Korakuen Hall Tracker. The goal of this tracker to show the attendance numbers in the most used building for professional wrestling in Japan but also present what the trends would be for Japanese wrestling through charts and to show which wrestling shows fans in Tokyo decide to spend their money on.
For the record, here is the data that I collected for the month of February and these numbers are cross referenced with what Weekly Pro Wrestling Magazine reported and each promotion claimed on their website.
Coming into the month of May, New Japan dominated once as they held four shows for the Best of the Super Juniors 24 and amassing over 5,778 fans in the process. GUTS World and DDT’s offshoot brand DNA had their first shows in Korakuen Hall with both drawing over 700 fans. Pro Wrestling WAVE continues to be one of the lowest drawing promotions in Tokyo as they drew 488 as they kicked off their Catch The Wave Tournament.
The surprise for this month is Pro Wrestling NOAH putting on three shows during this month and being able to draw almost 3,000 fans. Also, as Kairi Hojo officially left Stardom, SEAdLINNNG drew a number close to Stardom which almost shows growth for the young group as it was the third highest attendance in the promotion’s history.
As we left off last month, the averages are seemingly holding up the same but the third tier of promotions that run monthly are gaining, which is very good sign.
