Watch: USA Network, Hulu Network, WWE Network on an one-month delay

Wright State University Nutter Center – Dayton, OH

All of the women from the MITB ladder match are outside Daniel Bryan’s office looking for answers but Daniel tells them that he’ll take to Carmella and Ellsworth first. Carmella and James Ellsworth are in the ring and the crowd predictably is booing them after the interference on Sunday. Carmella basically says that she doesn’t give a damn about girl power because at the end of the day she’s still Ms. Money in the Bank. Every other woman has all these qualities about them but Carmella has intelligence, every other woman was worried about the history as she was thinking about her future. Then Carmella brings up examples of other MITB matches where interference has directly decided the winner and blames the internet trolls tweeting at Daniel Bryan about an issue that shouldn’t be an issue because at the end of the day she’s our Ms. Money in the Bank.

Backstage Daniel Bryan is watching Carmella’s promo and Charlotte walks in to press the issue at hand, how he plans to fix the situation caused by Carmella and James.

Big E vs Jimmy Uso

They two men start with an elbow and collar lock up before getting into the groove of things, the match is a good TV match, some back and forth action with spots for the face to get cheered. The match ends like the tag team title match on Sunday with the Usos trying to leave with their titles, except Kofi leaps onto Jey and Xavier blocks the ramp so Jimmy gets back into the ring. Big E wins the match and now the New Day have a win over the Usos.

Daniel Bryan is on the phone with Shane when Natalya and Tamina walk into his office and ask him to fix the Carmella and Ellsworth situation.

Naomi is asked backstage about her take on the women’s MITB controversy, she says that it’s unfortunate but she’s sure that Daniel Bryan will fix the situation. Lana interrupts Naomi to say that she needs to worry about her and challenges her to a rematch, Naomi says that she doesn’t deserve it but because she is a fighting champion she’ll give her a title opportunity next week.

The commentary desk recap the events of the WWE Championship match from Sunday to lead into a sit-down interview with Randy Orton, Tom asks Randy Orton how he recalls the final moments of the match. He thinks that the Singh Brothers are part of Jinder’s strategy but he’s played the numbers game too, Jinder Mahal has now made it personal by having the Singh Brothers put hands on his father.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Dolph Ziggler

Before either man walks in for an attack the crowd is busy chanting, “Nakamura”, Ziggler uses his amateur wrestling background and stays on the mat moving across it waiting for Nakamura to create an opening. The two shortly grapple on the mat before Ziggler goes outside to take a breather, Nakamura grabs Ziggler in a headlock to slow him down enough to drop a knee on his throat. I’m no longer a Ziggler fan but he does a great part in this match showing helping Shinsuke be able to show more of his mat-based offense while also doing some heel moves to help build up Shinsuke as a babyface. Shinsuke wins after a deadly kinsasha.

Sami Zayn is talking with Daniel Bryan backstage and finds out that he has a match with Baron Corbin next week. Becky Lynch walks in and chats with Sami about the women’s MITB match and how unfortunate it was that it had to end the way it did, Becky then emotionally tells Bryan how it felt to have her hands on the briefcase only for James Ellsworth to steal it all away. Bryan doesn’t offer any solutions and just apologizes to Becky about what happened.

Kevin Owens talks on the mic before his opponent is revealed to talk about how he was ganged up on at MITB and that’s the only reason he doesn’t have the briefcase right now. He knows that Shane likes to call SmackDown Live the ‘Land of Opportunity’ and he is making an open challenge because like the United States of America it’s all about opportunity. AJ Styles walks out with a mic and Kevin Owens gets ticked off before reminding AJ that he specified that a local, Dayton wrestler answer the open challenge, AJ then introduced Chad Gable who just so happened to move Dayton, Ohio this morning (he gave the address of a college).

WWE United States Championship: Kevin Owens (c) vs Chad Gable

The Minnesota-native, now Ohio resident Chad Gable, is quick on the draw and starts hitting Kevin Owens with some belly-to-back suplexes before Owens slowly starts to get control of the match back. The match ends pretty quickly, a couple minutes after returning from commercial break the match is over and Kevin Owens still has the US title.

The Hype Bros are backstage watching some tape from 6 months ago of them winning a battle royal to become #1 contenders for the tag team titles. Zack and Mojo tell Daniel they feel that there shouldn’t be a statute of limitations for title shots but Daniel tells them that the tag division has drastically changed in the 6 months that Zack was out. He does tell them that if they beat the Usos next week they’ll get another title match opportunity.

Daniel Bryan is in the ring getting cheered and tells the crowd that it’s great to be back but it’s a shame that the circumstances are bad. He asks for all the women who participated in the controversial match to come out to the ring. He says that, yes, MITB ladder matches are no DQ, and interference has happened, but in those cases, no one has unhooked the briefcase for another competitor. James Ellsworth tells Daniel that he’s grown soft after becoming a father to a vegan hippie child. Daniel threatens violence on James causing Carmella to get upset at Daniel for getting in James’ face. Becky interrupts Carmella and all the women in the ring start talking, once peace returns Daniel says that next week they’re redoing the Money in the Bank ladder match and Carmella gets to make history as the first woman to be stripped of the briefcase. After it seems the segment is over Carmella starts a brawl in the ring that ends with her pleading with Charlotte and Becky, Charlotte hits Carmella with Natural Selection and Becky uses the Disarm-Her.

Jinder Mahal w/ The Singh Brothers vs Luke Harper

Luke Harper gets the early advantage in the match, causing Jinder to roll outside and yell at the Singh Brothers. The two have some back-and-forth and some headlocks before Baron Corbin’s music hits as he teases a cash-in before Harper loses in a short match. After the bell and Jinder’s music plays Randy Orton walks out and lays waste to Jinder Mahal and the Singh Brothers.

  • Decent - 6/10

A good episode of SmackDown Live after a controversial Money in the Bank PPV on Sunday. It cleared questions about the women's briefcase and we get a rematch next week. With Ellsworth banned from ringside, we'll get a definitive Ms. Money in the Bank and it'll probably help boost a rating.
