WWE Raw Review: Stars and Stripes, Brother!

Big Show and Zack Ryder saved the day vs. The "multi-national" alliance

Watch: USA Network

July 4, 2016

Nationwide Arena – Columbus, Ohio

Welcome to another WWE Raw review. On this very special 4th of July evening we’re sure to be in for a treat as we see a eight on eight USA vs. International tag team match, and probably some more patriotic things. So let’s get into it.

We start off with a look into the backstage catering area where most of the WWE Roster is eating and having some sort of 4th of July party. With everyone eating and yelling and Golden Truth providing us with a performance, things looked fun. That was until the Vaudevillains came in and ruined it. They gave us a musical rendition of the Declaration of Independence until someone threw food in their faces. Miz interrupted with Maryse. Miz says another food fight will not happen at a WWE Party ever again. Tyler Breeze then squirted chocolate sauce on Miz and someone threw cake at Maryse. Of course this started a gigantic food fight between everyone. Food was flying everywhere, people were going down and Kane was hit, causing him and big show to double chokeslam Heath through a table. Kevin Owens got a pie smashed in his face to end the segment. Hell of a way to start Raw!

Lillian Garcia then preformed the nation anthem I between the red, white and blue ropes. Happy birthday USA!

Rusev then comes out for a U.S Title match! Lit. (Editor’s note: what a millennial.)

WWE United States Championship: Rusev (c) vs. Titus O'Neil

First off Titus came out dressed as Uncle Sam and even wrestled in American flag shorts. These two beat the shit out of each other man. They were hitting hard and looking for a win early. Titus hit a Clash of the Titus pretty early on in the match but couldn’t finish Rusev. Not long after, Rusev locked in the Accolade. The crowd was chanting “USA! USA! USA!” and really getting behind Titus. It looked like he was going to break out but then he just tapped. Rusev attacked Titus and cut a promo dissing America after the match. Nothing much to it, but pretty solid.

Champion vs. Champion match between Miz & Ambrose will happen later on, as well as John Cena addressing the club. And in the main event; A 16 man elimination match will take place. But you already knew that perro.

The Social Outcasts vs. Enzo & Cass

The Outcasts came out and wrestled in patriotic minute men outfits and Enzo & Cass gave us some star spangled banter before the match. This wasn’t much of a match. Enzo & Axel went back and forth for a little bit until Bo & Cass got the hot tags. Cass destroyed Bo and they finished him off with an assisted splash by Enzo.

Ziggler vs. Rollins will happen tonight.

Charlotte and Dana Brooke come out to address Sasha Banks. Charlotte basically said that Sasha is jealous of Charlotte. Sasha then came out and pointed out that Charlotte has never beaten her. They bantered back and forth until Sasha bantered the living fuck out of Charlotte which pissed her off and a fight started. Sasha took out Dana but the numbers game caught up to her and Charlotte kicked her in the face. She tried to pick her up but Sasha reversed and hit the bank statement. Charlotte and Dana ran away while Sasha stood tall.

Champion vs. Champion: Dean Ambrose vs. The Miz

Miz cut a promo before the match. He was pissed off about the food fight, then he dedicated this match to his wife, Maryse. Trask filled in for the match here since I dozed off.

Since Brady is a mark and zoned out I’m saving the day. This was a good match as both guys have been consistent as of late. Yes, even Ambrose. It wasn’t anything blow away but for a 4th of July Raw I will take it. The two traded a lot of moves and Ambrose mounted a comeback each time out. Miz kept locking in the Figure Four after good limbwork and Ambrose sold well. After a crash course finishing sequence Ambrose hit Dirty Deeds for the win. Enjoyable TV match.

After the match, Ambrose went to leave and Rollins came out. Dean patted his back and walked off. Seth was in the ring and Ambrose back down the ramp and slid in the ring looking to attack him, but Ambrose just slid out of the ring and joined the Spanish announce team.

Right before the match started it was announced that Brock Lesnar’s Summer Slam opponent will be announced this week on SmackDown.

Seth Rollins vs. Dolph ZigglerPro

The match started pretty weirdly with Ziggler trying to roll up Seth multiple times to try to finish it. It didn’t work, but Seth started getting frustrated. When Seth finally took control things started to pick up with some nice back and forth action. They traded some super kicks and we saw a crazy finishing sequence between both men. It looked like anyone could’ve picked up the win at this point and I was surprised at how good this was going. But Rollins ended up hitting the pedigree and won. Another good TV match.

After the match, Rollins cut a promo about how he’s the best. Rollins talked about how he thinks Roman shouldn’t be in the Battleground match and he shouldn’t even be in the WWE Draft. He said Reigns should be a role model but he’s not. Rollins started going off on Ambrose, which caused Ambrose to attack Seth. Ambrose hit the Dirty Deeds on the announcers table on Seth to end the segment.

The Wyatt Family had a weird vignette type promo about the New Day.

A random Baron Corbin promo aired.

EXCUSE ME!… Vickie Guererro is back! Vickie came out and stood by the SmackDown draft podium and said she’s officially putting her name in the hat of people to run SmackDown. Security escorted her out while JBL randomly yelled “VICKIE GUERRERO” on the mic.

Team USA was backstage getting a lecture and a pep talk from Big Show.

Vickie was shown being tossed out of the building when they ran into Dolph Ziggler. Dolph told security he’s never seen her before and she was thrown out.

BreezDango was sitting ringside in the “V.I.P Lounge” for the next match.

Vaudevillains vs. Golden Truth

This really wasn’t much of a match. Golden Truth dominated basically the entire time and won with their new tag team move called Solid Gold.

More ‘Make Darren Young Great Again’ promos aired. Bob Backlund gave Darren Young the cross face chicken win to use.

John Cena came out to address The Club. John Cena said he’s sick and tired of looking over his shoulder and worrying about The Club. YOU WANT SOME? COME GET SOME! John called out The Club. Styles cut a promo about how John is still mad about his loss at Money In The Bank. Styles said no one in the locker room has John Cena’s back because no one is like him. AJ Styles and The Club just went off on Cena and it was great. They said they’d beat up John Cena on every holiday. Including July 4th. They headed to the ring. The Club beat the hell out of John Cena until Enzo and Cass ran down for the save. Cena, Enzo and Cass stood tall to end the segment.

Primo and Epico cut a 4th of July promo.

Becky Lynch vs. Summer RaePro

This wasn’t what I expected … or was it? I went into this thinking of it just as a match. But I don’t think I expected it to be as bad as it was. We saw Becky’s Battleground opponent Natalya watching from backstage half way through the match. These two just shit the bed until Becky locked on the disarm-her and won.

Y2J hyped up the international team backstage which ended with them all arguing about who’s the leader. Owens cut everyone off and actually became the saving grace for the team and made them all get on the same page. Sami, Cesaro and the Lucha Dragons became amigos when the heels left.

Enzo and Cass cut a little Sonic infomercial promo backstage which was hilarious because Enzo couldn’t spell Delicious and he had “A Cupa ‘Tata’s”.

New Day came out to the ring for a promo about the Wyatts. Kofi said the Wyatts actually like them, and they like the Wyatts. The Wyatts interupted with a on-screen promo. Bray challenged them to come to his compound. Bray told them to find him. They’ll be waiting. Kofi said they accept the invitation. They’re going to spread positivity all over the Wyatts compound. Xavier finally grabbed a mic and went off. He said that it’s not a good idea to go meet the Wyatts. Xavier told them that Bray Wyatt is a threat and if they can’t see that, then the New Day can’t survive. Woods then dropped his mic and left the New Day in the ring. Very weird but good segment.

They hype up Brock’s Summer Slam opponent announced on SmackDown. They then announce that John Cena, Enzo & Cass vs. The Club will happen at Battleground.

Team USA vs. The Multi-National AlliancePro

Each member of the Multi-National Alliance came out to a different song with their countries flag waving on the screen. Pretty cool. Cesaro, Owens, Lucha Dragons, Jericho, Zayn, Del Rio and Sheamus take on Apollo, Kane, Big Show, Jack Swagger, Zack Ryder Dudleyz and Mark Henry.

Owens and Ryder kicked off the match but tags were quickly made to D-Von and Sin Cara. Sin Cara was eliminated a few short minutes later by the Dudleyz after a 3-D. Kalisto ran in and eliminated Bubba with the help of Sheamus. We came back from commercial to see Cesaro eliminate D-Von via tap out. Swagger and Cesaro had a stare down then did the “WE THE PEOPLE” chant together before going at each other. Cesaro made a tag to Jericho. Swagger and Jericho went at it and Swagger was in control until he slipped up and Jericho hit the code breaker. Swagger eliminated. Everyone ended up running in the ring to brawl leading us to a commercial. Mark Henry eliminated Kalisto with the worlds strongest slam. He turned around and Owens pop-up power bombed him for the elimination. Owens and Sami ended up brawling. Owens was eliminated for hitting his own team mate with a chair. Then Kane. Kane then grabbed the chair and hit Owens and got eliminated. How in the fuck did Kane get eliminated by hitting someone not in the match??? Things are getting confusing but Sheamus eliminated Sami and Apollo in a matter of seconds. Team USA only has Ryder and Show left. Team Multi-international dominated until their team started fighting and Cesaro hit the uppercut train on his whole team. Then, Ryder rolled Cesaro up after reversing the neutralizer and eliminated him. Big Show KO punched Jericho and eliminated him then choke slammed Del Rio to eliminate him. With Zack Ryder and Big Show vs. Sheamus, things were on Team USA’s side for the first time. Ryder ended up hitting the rough Ryder for the win. ZACK RYDER WON THE MAIN EVENT OF RAW FOR HIS TEAM BY PINNING SHEAMUS. WOW.

The U.S. flag dropped down and fireworks shot off as Team USA celebrated to end Raw.

Tonight’s show was insane. In a weird way it was really good with a mixture of some bad. That main event was something else and all the Battleground hype is exciting. Plus don’t forget to tune into SmackDown to see Brock Lesnar’s SummerSlam opponent. Thanks for reading.
