With WWE, more specifically; Monday Night Raw being on a hot streak recently, I go into each show looking forward to what they have planned. Tonight is no different. All we really know is that rapper P-Diddy will make a guest appearance which should be interesting, and SmackDown Live’s General Manager Daniel Bryan was invited by Mick Foley to stop by, which makes things a lot more interesting. I’m curious to see how things go down on the road to SummerSlam. Let’s get into it.
Enzo & Big Cass kick off Monday Night Raw. They do their usual entrance shtick which quickly turned into them going at Chris Jericho. After a few minutes on the mic, Enzo was interrupted by Jericho himself. He talked about how Enzo has Cass for backup, and now so does he. Kevin Owens then made his way to the ring with Jericho. Both teams went back and forth on the mic for a while longer. Jericho and Owens stood up to Cass but backed down when he wanted to fight. Instead, we’re getting Jericho against Enzo, next.
Enzo vs. Chris Jericho
This match was the true definition of decent. Not bad, but certainly not good. It went way too long and to make things worse, it ended in a DQ. Jericho had the upper hand for most of the time with Enzo getting little spurts of offense. Owens interfered and caused Enzo to get hit with a code breaker. Cass then ran in and hit Chris Jericho with a big boot. Jericho gets the DQ win. After the match, Cass challenges Jericho & Owens to a match at SummerSlam, to which they accepted.
It’s announced that Rusev & Lana will celebrate their wedding on Raw. That’ll end well.
Mick Foley was on the phone with Stephanie McMahon. He was then interrupted by Sasha Banks. She wanted the match for Summer Slam changed to a handicap match with Charlotte & Dana, because she knew Dana would interfere away. But, Foley made a compromise. Sasha vs. Dana will happen tonight. If Sasha wins, Dana will be banned from ringside. If Dana wins, it’ll become a handicap match. Okay then.
Braun Strowman vs. Jorell Nelson
This was cool, Braun came out first, then Jorell was interviewed backstage. He didn’t talk at all, then made his entrance. My favorite part of Raw in the new era then happened. Braun Strowman destroyed Jorell in about a minute and won with the reverse chokeslam.
P-Diddy walked into Mick Foley’s office backstage. Diddy invited Foley’s family to one of his concerts. New Day then came in to introduce themselves to Diddy. They talked about WWE 2k17, Anderson & Gallows and yes, even Big E’s injuring when Diddy asked “how are Big E’s nuts?”. Comical segment with promotional advertising.
Titus O'Neil vs. Darren Young (w/Bob Backlund)
Titus absolutely man handled Darren Young the entire match. Though, the match was only a mere few minutes, Titus was in control the whole time, until Darren caught a break and rolled Titus up for the win. He used the tights just like Titus did last week.
Seth Rollins came out to address Finn Balor. Seth said that he wants to know more about Finn. He told the crowd that Finn Balor isn’t even his real name and joked around a bit, before getting serious. Rollins said that Balor disrespected him and went off on a tangen about how things weren’t handed to him and he earned everything he got. He finishes off the promo by saying that at SummerSlam, he will beat Finn Balor.
We take a look back at Raw & SmackDown highlighted by the Brock Lesnar & Randy Orton feud.
Cesaro vs. Sheamus
Oh my, this is what I like to see! These two beat the hell out of each other. Both men just wouldn’t stay down. Countering so much that their opponent had to offer made this match so exciting and kept me on the edge of my seat. Cesaro did the same reversal as last week that helped him hit Sheamus with a neutralizer, but Sheamus countered Cesaro’s counter and went for a Brogue kick which Cesaro reversed into a pin for a two count which made a cool little spot in the match. After a couple more minutes of just pure great wrestling, Sheamus was thrown at the ref but the ref moved and almost got hit by Cesaro. Sheamus then hit the ref and Cesaro and tried for the pin but the ref was down. When he got up, Cesaro rolled Sheamus up for the win. Great match, I’m not even mad about another roll-up finish. Great stuff.
We get a special look into Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton. Brock was then announced for Raw next week.
Dudley Boyz vs. Neville & Sin Cara
This match was hyped up on the Raw Pre-Show. Neville was approached by the Dudley’s and a match was made. Neville just had to find a mystery partner. I thought it was going to be a return, but instead we just got Sin Cara. Okay.
This match was just there and should’ve been on Superstars or something. Though I love seeing Neville, this match was nothing. It was good to see Neville fly around and do some cool stuff, but that’s it. Neville got the win for his team with the Red-Arrow on D-Von.
Daniel Bryan showed up to the building.
Rusev came out onto the stage followed by Lana making her way to the ring with wedding music, looking beautiful in a dress. They went down to the ring, which was filled with decorations and a table full of cakes. Not just one cake, many cakes. Rusev knows how to do a damn wedding ceremony. Lana & Rusev talked about their wedding, then Lana kissed Rusev’s muscle. Weird. They rolled a wedding video package for the two. Finally after some of the slowest talking I’ve ever heard, Roman Reigns interrupts Lana & Rusev. Roman offered Rusev a toast, to which he declined. Roman then challenged Rusev to a match at SummerSlam for the U.S. Title but Rusev declined that as well. Roman poured out some champagne and made a toast anyway. Roman made a few comments to make Rusev mad, which started a fight. Rusev was in control until Roman punched him into Lana, who fell face first into a cake. Rusev and cake face Lana freaked out in the ring while Roman left the ring. Roman was great here. He was met with more cheers than boos. Progress.
Rusev went up to Foley backstage asking for Reigns to get punishment basically, but instead; Roman gets a United States Championship match at SummerSlam.
Sasha Banks vs. Dana Brooke
Surprisingly, this was a solid match. Very quick too. Dana was in control at the beginning but the tide quickly turned when Charlotte accidentally slapped Dana. A few moves & a double knee to the chest later, Sasha Banks picked up the win. Dana is now banned from ringside at SummerSlam.
We see a short inside look at Nia Jax.
Finn Bàlor’s promo on Seth Rollins aired. He was in a cool setting with smoke and darkness while talking about his background, then talked about the Demon. Finn tells Rollins that at Summer Slam, Seth will meet the Demon King. This was such a cool promo. Seek it out if you haven’t seen it.
Anderson & Gallows dressed as doctors cut a promo. They said there’s a disease called Ring-Postitus. They made testicle jokes, and said tonight they’ll take a sample from Kofi Kingston.
Kofi Kingston vs. Luke Gallows
Another really quick match. Kofi had a speedy start and hit a sweet outside dive, but Karl Anderson distracted him and Luke Gallows picked up the win. They tried to hurt Kofi the same way they hurt Big E, but Woods came with a chair and made them run away.
Goldust was outside with Scooby Doo, then R-Truth jumped out of the mystery machine van. They bantered about the new Scooby Doo movie and being partners, then they all left in the van to go watch the movie.
Raw GM Mick Foley came out to the ring. He invited SmackDown Live’s GM; Daniel Bryan to the ring. Daniel tried to plug SmackDown but Foley cut him off. Mick said that he brought Daniel here to apologize for Brock invading SmackDown. Daniel said that he also apologizes for Randy invading Raw and made a joke of it. They went back and forth until Rusev came out. Rusev tried to attack Daniel with his words but Cesaro came out. Cesaro told Mick that he earned a title match, which he was not given. Daniel taunted Mick with the fact that Raw has underutilized Cesaro. So, Mick gave Cesaro a U.S. Title match. NOW!
Rusev vs. Cesaro - United States Championship Match
This impromptu match started off on fire with Cesaro trying to get a quick win. Rusev started to fire back and we got ourselves a match! These two were just as hard hitting as Cesaro’s earlier match tonight. Very solid match with some good near falls. Cesaro looked to have the match won a few times but couldn’t get it done. Sheamus interfered and even though Cesaro quickly took him out, Cesaro was eventually caught with the Brogue kick while the ref wasn’t looking and Rusev picked up the win. After the match, Roman ran down and speared Rusev to end the show.
