WWE Raw for February 27, 2017

Watch: USA Network, Hulu, WWE Network on a one-month delay

Resch Center – Green Bay, Wisconsin

Welcome once again to a review of Monday Night Raw! Tonight on Raw, Goldberg is on the show, Seth Rollins gives an update on his injury, and the final build to this Sunday’s FastLane happens. Lets jump right in!

To kick off the show Goldberg’s theme hits and he’s welcomed by an arena-wide Goldberg chant. Goldberg said that what Kevin Owens does best is talk and he never stops talking. Goldberg tells Green Bay that he’s in a good mood because in 6 days, he will become the Universal Champion. Goldberg makes a promise that it will be 1 spear and then 1 jackhammer for him to win the title. Goldberg then promises his family, the crowd, everyone watching at home, and to Kevin Owens that he will deliver at Fastlane. Goldberg then goes to leave, but Kevin Owens’s music hits and Goldberg stays in the ring. Kevin Owens comes out to the stage and tells Goldberg that he’s also in a good mood. Owens said that last week he got a lot of things of his chest, but this week he can say those things to Goldberg’s face. Kevin Owens said his promise when he came to the WWE was to grab the company by the throat and he’s just done that. Owens then lists everyone that he’s beaten on his path through the WWE such as John Cena, Dean Ambrose, AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and even Chris Jericho but Owens said that Jericho doesn’t matter. Kevin Owens tells Goldberg that he’s next in the evolution of Kevin Owens as Universal Champion. Goldberg sarcastically responds by saying that everyone should thank Owens for such a moving speech, but then says all it did was piss him off so he wants to fight Kevin Owens right now. Owens comes down the ramp and challenges Goldberg to match tonight, but then backs out when he realizes he’s in Green Bay and tells the crowd that they don’t deserve to see him fight. Owens caps off the promo by saying that at Fastlane he will stand over Goldberg still Universal Champion and the crowd will be silent because the Goldberg chant will die. Owens drops the microphone and goes backstage as his music hits.

The New Day come out. The say that they’ve already bathed enough people in Booty O’s, but now the people want ice cream. Before they can do that, however, they have to take the shine from the Shining Stars, who then make their entrance for a match. However, Xavier Woods is handed a card that says they’re actually not facing the Shining Stars. This is a parody of the Oscars blunder from last night. Big E holds up a card to the camera that reveals they’re actually facing Rusev and Jinder Mahal tonight while the Shining Stars will have to face the Big Show.

The New Day def. Jinder Mahal & Rusev

Kofi Kingston is at ringside for this match. Xavier Woods and Big E dominate Jinder Mahal right out of the gate and when Rusev goes for an attack on the outside he’s taken out as well, as the show goes to commercial. Back from commercial, Xavier Woods is trying to tag in Big E, but Rusev and Jinder Mahal have him under control. Woods eventually gets the hot tag to Big E and comes in and lands three belly to bellys on Jinder Mahal and then a big splash. Big E went for the Big Ending, but Rusev saved Jinder with an attack on the apron and then Jinder landed a superkick on Big E. Woods gets tagged in and lands a high crossbody on Jinder for a near fall. There was some sort of argument going on on the outside of the ring with Lana and Kofi which distracted Jinder and allowed Xavier Woods to get a roll up for the victory. After the match Jinder and Rusev yelled at each other, showing some tension between the two.

Enzo and Cass are backstage talking about winning the Raw tag titles. Enzo talks about how he’s gonna slide in some DMs or something when he wins the title, ya know, Enzo stuff, but Big Cass reminds Enzo that Gallows and Anderson aren’t gonna be easy opponents so they have to stay focused on the match.

Sheamus and Cesaro are shown backstage talking about how they’re gonna get the Raw Tag Titles back when Samoa Joe enters. Cesaro confronts Samoa Joe for being a backstabber, but Joe tells Cesaro that he’s jealous because he hasn’t been able to grab the brass ring and Joe has been wearing it around his neck since he came to the WWE. Cesaro tells Joe that he’ll take care of him later on tonight.

Stephanie McMahon is then shown backstage, just ripping into Mick Foley for being pathetic, and blah, blah, blah, stuff she tells him every week. Mick Foley takes it pretty well however and he’s shown smiling as Stephanie leaves the room.

Akira Tozawa def. Noam Dar

They show a video before the match of Brian Kendrick talking to Akira Tozawa detailing all the lessons he’s taught him over the past couple of weeks because Tozawa declined Kendrick’s mentorship. This was a short match that was mostly all Tozawa except when Noam Dar got in some brief offense due to a distraction from Alicia Fox, but ultimately Tozawa picked up the win with a German Suplex. After the match Brian Kendrick attacked Tozawa from behind. Kendrick got on the microphone to give him another lesson about how even when he wins the match, it’s not really over and he needs to have eyes in the back of his head.

Backstage Samoa Joe confronts Mick Foley. Foley tells Joe that he used to be his biggest fan until he became a puppet for Triple H. Joe tells Foley that nobody tells him what to do, but Foley fires back by making Joe a match tonight against Cesaro.

Charlotte and Dana Brooke make their entrance for the match. Charlotte gets on the microphone to say she’s disappointed in Bayley for not giving up her title. Charlotte says that Bayley is putting on an act as a role model when in reality she’s a cheater. Charlotte calls Bayley a one-hit wonder, then Bayley’s music interrupted her. Charlotte called Bayley a cheater to her face, but Bayley held up her title and corrected her by saying that she’s a champion. Bayley said that her next dream to achieve is leaving WrestleMania as Raw Women’s Champion. Charlotte told Bayley that she was going to buy Bayley’s dad a front row ticket so he can witness Bayley become a one -hit wonder. Sasha Banks then makes her entrance. Sasha asks Charlotte if she wants everyone to have daddy issues just like her. Sasha then told Charlotte she was tired of looking at her stupid face. That just sounded so lame, honestly, she has to be able to think of something better than that. Charlotte introduced her partner, which upset Dana Brooke because that’s who she was supposed to team with tonight. Nia Jax made her entrance for the match to take Dana Brooke’s spot.

Nia Jax & Charlotte def. Bayley & Sasha Banks

Dana Brooke attempted to interfere in the match, but instead she took a Bayley-to-Belly on the floor, sending her to the back to be checked on. Sasha gave Bayley a hot tag and she ran right into Nia Jax. Nia picked up Sasha and slammed her onto Bayley, and then landed a leg drop on Bayley for the win.

Backstage, Mick Foley tells Braun Strowman that he doesn’t have a match for tonight. Strowman is okay with that, but he wants a contract signing with Roman Reigns, therefore Roman can’t run away before Fastlane. Mick Foley told Strowman that he doesn’t see Roman running away, but he’ll give Braun Strowman a contract signing nonetheless.

Big Cass def. Luke Gallows

Enzo and Cass’s entrance didn’t get much of a reaction tonight. This was a pretty short match. Cass landed the Empire Elbow and when Karl Anderson got on the apron to interfere, but Enzo threw Anderson into the ring steps. Then, Gallows took a huge big boot for Cass to get the win.

Sheamus def. Titus O'Neil

This match is happening because before the sho,w Titus told Sheamus that he’ll need a new partner tonight after Cesaro is destroyed by Samoa Joe. Sheamus responded by shoving Titus into a table. Titus tried to jump Sheamus before the match started, but it failed and Sheamus won the match in under 30 seconds with a Brogue Kick.

Corey Graves is in the ring to interview Seth Rollins about his WrestleMania status after being injured by Samoa Joe. Seth Rollins makes his way to the ring with the help of a crutch. Graves asked Rollins how his knee was doing and Rollins responded by saying that he just hopes to come back soon. Graves asked Rollins where his head was at and Rollins fell silent. Rollins eventually said that it sucks because he thinks he may have deserved it. Graves asks why he thinks that and Rollins said that he told the world that he didn’t sell out he bought in, but did he buy in enough? Then the crowd decided to chant for CM Punk for whatever reason. Corey Graves finally asked Rollins if he was gonna be at WrestleMania and Rollins said that it doesn’t look like the doctors are gonna clear him. Triple H’s music went off and Triple H came out with a smile on his face. HHH said it was great to see Rollins again, because he honestly never thought he would see Rollins again. Samoa Joe is at ringside as well. Triple H tells Seth Rollins that he won’t be at WrestleMania. Triple H then tells Seth Rollins that he chewed up him up and spit him out and that Rollins should salvage what his left of him and leave. Triple H says that if Rollins calls him out at WrestleMania, it will be the last thing he does in a WWE ring. Seth Rollins came back and said that he promises he will be at WrestleMania to call Triple H out, and it will be the last thing that Triple H does in a WWE ring.

The Big Show def. The Shining Stars in a handicap match

This was pretty short and nothing special. Big Show got the win with a chokeslam.

Backstage, Neville confronts Tony Nese regarding their tag match against Jack Gallagher and TJ Perkins. Neville tells Tony Nese that the purpose of tonight’s match is to sideline Jack Gallagher before the title match this Sunday. Tony Nese said he didn’t really care and he was just gonna do whatever is best for him. Neville told him not to screw it up.

Jack Gallagher and TJ Perkins def. Tony Nese and Neville

This was a real short match. Gallagher locked in a crucifix armbar on Nese forcing him to tap out and Neville didn’t even attempt to make save and just let it happen. The crowd was completely dead for the whole thing.

They played a video announcing Beth Phoenix into the Hall of Fame. I was really happy about this since Beth Phoenix was someone I grew up watching and enjoyed.

Backstage, Stephanie McMahon confronted Sasha and Bayley. Sasha said she’d be ringside for Bayley’s title defense at Fastlane, so Stephanie made Sasha a match against Nia Jax so she would have to worry about that instead.

Samoa Joe def. Cesaro

Right away, Cesaro hit a deadlift suplex on Joe that looked like a serious feat of strength. Cesaro started selling his knee after he tweaked in while landing on the apron. Samoa Joe went for a kneebar that Cesaro almost tapped out of. Cesaro tried to come back with a series of forearms and a suplex then a double knee to the chest for a 2 count. Cesaro went for the Neutralizer, but Samoa Joe was able to get out of it with a back body drop. Samoa Joe then got the clean victory with the Uranage.

After the match ,Charly Caruso interviewed Samoa Joe on stage. She asked him how he has been able to make such an impact on Raw in so little time. In the middle of Joe’s response Sami Zayn came out from the back and attacked Joe from behind. Security eventually got Sami Zayn off of Joe, but then Joe came back and laid Sami out. When security was taking Samoa Joe away, Sami Zayn landed a somersault tope off of the ramp on Samoa Joe to end the brawl.

Highlights | Sami Zayn can’t wait to show Samoa Joe zero respect at Fastlane

Mick Foley is in the ring for the contract signing between Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns. Strowman made his entrance and told Foley he can leave the ring. Foley exploded on Braun Strowman and told him that he needs to respect him because he’s a legend. Braun just knocked the microphone out of Foley’s hands and laughed at him. Roman Reigns made his entrance and attacked Braun right away. Braun and Roman fought all over the arena until Reigns speared Strowman though a barricade and took out a security guard. Roman got in the ring to sign the contact and the crowd actually started to chant for him. Strowman got into the ring to attack Roman again, but Roman landed a Superman punch which put Strowman down to a knee. Reigns then went for a spear, but Strowman caught him and threw him in the turnbuckle causing it to actually break off.

  • Decent - 6.0/10

This episode a Raw was a step down from week's past. Goldberg and Owens kicked off the show and weren't seen again. The build to the main event of this Sunday's PPV is already out of the way at the beginning of the show. None of the matches were nothing special either. The storylines going into Fastlane seemed to already have the build they needed. The only real highlight of the show was the confrontation between Seth Rollins and Triple H. Overall, decent.
