WWE Main Event #253 Blog (August 3, 2017)

Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado vs. Drew Gulak & THE Brian Kendrick

Gran Metalik is back! Also, Lince is back too.

Lince and Gulak started us off, with some great basing along with Gulak, but could tell they were holding back. Kendrick & Metalik then got in and had some good chemistry–this being mainly a Metalik flying showcase. Soon Gulak comes back in and the heels start working solid heat; Lince had a fun hot tag though it wasn’t very exciting. Lince & Metalik soon did a pretty cool stereo moonsault, Lince hits an SSP and gets the win. Very fun tag match, though held back for the C-show they still did some breezy work. I watched this for Metalik, I left wanting Lince vs. Gulak. **3/4

We get a Roman Reigns video package they showed on Raw.

We get a recap of last Raw’s Jason Jordan in Miz TV segment. This felt regressive, as a problem with The Miz is he is so good on the mic, Jason Jordan just looked bush league at first trying to keep up with him. Jordan sounded robotic, like he was clearly reading from a script, while Miz felt powerful and real. Miz gives Jordan an offer to join the Miztourage, Jordan rejects, deciding he doesn’t want the Bo and Axel fashion. Miz started insulting Jordan’s father and said Jordan would fail in WWE, at this point the Jordan mic performance becomes acceptable, sounding upset and suplexes Miz. While an acceptable way to start a mid-card feud, the way they are going about it doesn’t seem like it will get Jordan over.

We see the finish of Big Cass vs. Big Show from the last Raw, I didn’t see the full match and this did not make me want to see it. Cass beats up Show and then beats up Enzo.

We get a Samoa Joe video package that they showed on Raw.

Emma vs. Mickie James

These two had a fun, short TV match on Main Event a few weeks ago. We get a fun technical wrasslin sequence leading to a stalemate and a show of respect. They soon go to the outside with James taking control with a crossbody to the outside off the apron. The crowd is hot for this so far. We go to break, and Mickie is still in control, countering whenever Emma tries to rally. Just when this starts to get into second gear, Emma trips James into the turnbuckle to get the pin. A sudden finish to end an ok match that could have used more time. **1/2

We get a BRAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN video package from Raw and it is beautiful and amazing to see how charismatic Braun became compared to his main roster debut nearly two years ago.

We get a dramatic video recap of the Braun/Joe/Reigns brawl from two weeks ago that led to the roster coming out. I reviewed this last week, it is still very good and even better after WWE did their magic video recap touches.

We get a recap of the last Raw, with Heyman and Lesnar saying that if Brock loses at SummerSlam that he will leave WWE. Very smart, getting some uncertainty headed into the SummerSlam Universal Title Match.

We join BRAUUUUUUUUN vs. Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe in Progress

I watched this from Raw, so a full match review: this was super hot with everyone looking strong and nonstop action, Braun, Joe, and Roman each got a chance to show off their stuff and if you like hoss fights, you will like this. I was a bit surprised this had a clean finish, but I do like Reigns getting some revenge for losing to Joe, should have been the Main Event of Raw rather than just the Main of Main Event. Roman wins. ***1/2

  • Average - 5/10

This was watchable and ok, nothing worth seeking out though, as the only thing from Raw which was shown in full was the ok Miz TV segment.
