News has begun surfacing regarding Yoshihiro Takayama’s injury, in which on May 6 of this year, Takayama, working for DDT, embarked on a sunset flip only for it to go wrong–thus leading to him now being paralyzed from the neck down. You can find the full story with recent updates out there, but I don’t want to dwell too far on what’s going on, as Tanner and I are here to provide some hope and positivity. We were already going to start a Takayama project this week, in which we watch/review matches spanning his entire career, albeit nearly all of them in a row that are online/that we have. Then this horrific news began to file in, and it couldn’t possibly be a better time to get started on it.
How it will work:
You basically know all of the details. We’re going to be reviewing matches from Takayama’s career, spanning UWFi to current day independent matches. We both will be providing our hot takes in one single post.
Important note: We are not just doing singles matches. That’d be dumb.
Tanner note: Writing about the career of one of my favorite wrestlers of all time is one of the big reasons why I reached out to Trask to come back to Wrestling With Words. I am happy he is joining me on this trip/mission/hoot city and hope you all come along for the ride to celebrate arguably the best big man wrestling has ever seen! Trask note: That’s not Big Show.
There’s no time limit or period in which we’re aiming to hit/stay in. We’re going to be chipping away at this for a while. We start this week–strap in and join in as we examine the career of one of our favorite Japanese wrestlers of all time!
