Trask & Wrestling 2017

I do not use star ratings. My “ratings” consist of descriptive words on a scale, where I’m able to point to a given description that can be used to showcase how the match was.

  • classic: Highest possible rating. Rarely given, and equivalent to *****. Although in the way I critique wrestling, a classic may not live up to your star ratings. I try to really save this for what I think are some of the best matches of all time, and possibly my MOTY(s) in a given year.
  • another planet: Akin to a MOTYC. I could give it out more than you’d get on say, a top matches of the year list though. I don’t think in the moment anymore as it pertains to MOTYs. I’d rather step back at the end of the year and dissect. This is just for a match that is on another planet with its work, and has hardly any flaws or detraction.
  • excellent: A match that’s in an elite league of its own.
  • great: Very memorable and highly recommended match.
  • very good: A very good match is the point of recommendation I begin with when discussing wrestling. It may not be the most memorable, but it falls in line with what’s considered a match you should check out.
  • good: Solid match but unremarkable in the long run.
  • abstract: This may not label a match as good or great, but it’s respected for its out of the box attempts, insanity, its ease of enjoyment, and more. Essentially a niche, crazy as all hell wrestling match for any given reasons.
  • ok: Some redeeming qualities and/or a handful of good moments but flawed for one or more reasons.
  • eh: The middle of the pack. An “ok” match is slightly better, but an “eh” match isn’t to an actively bad degree.
  • below average: A match with significant detracting problems that noticeably outweigh any redeeming qualities.
  • bad: Difficult to watch and very poorly executed.
  • no: No watchable moments. The worst of the worst. This is the “classic” of bad matches. This is not a “no” as in “no rating”, but rather “no, do not watch”.
  • NR: No rating. This is given to any angle driven matches that end abruptly, enhancement matches, squash matches, and the like.
