Hardcore Championship: Mike Awesome (c) vs. Jeff Hardy

With WWF in the middle of a war with WCW and ECW, everyone was trying to take championships back to their brands. In this case, Jeff Hardy was fighting to win back WWF’s very own Hardcore Championship. But, with a challenger like Mike Awesome this won’t be a easy task.

Mike came out full force right from the get go and dominated Hardy for a good bit of the start. Every time Hardy looked to have things going his way, Awesome would turn things right back around. That was until Jeff Hardy pulled out something he’s very familiar with. A Ladder. Hardy was pulling out all of the stops to try to put away Awesome, including hitting a leg drop off the top while sitting on a broom, using the ladder as a weapon and he tried to climb the ladder for a diving move, but was shoved off. Mike Awesome was fully in control and looked like he had the match in the bag, until an unlikely duo came for the save.

As Mike Awesome set up for the Awesome Bomb, he was hit from behind with a chair by Edge and Christian. A conchairto followed the attack and Jeff Hardy finished it off with a picture perfect Swanton Bomb. The New Hardcore Champion, taking the belt back to team WWF, Jeff Hardy.

This was a very fun match, but the thing I liked the most was the fact that this had story behind it. One man from WCW/ECW against a man from WWF, who’s trying to get the championship back for his brand. Even better, two unlikely ally’s came to the save just to prove their brand is superior. I can’t wait for more and be sure to come back next time for more of The Hardcore Files.
