Welcome back to the twenty ninth edition of The Hardcore Files. Last time we saw Shane McMahon finally dethrone Steve Blackman for the Hardcore Championship with the help of five other men. Now, with Shane McMahon running away from Steve, Commissioner Mick Foley has suspended the Hardcore 24/7 rule until Steve gets his rematch. Tonight, he finally gets his rematch at SummerSlam 2000. Let’s get into it.
Date: August 27, 2000
Watch: WWE Network
When the match began, Shane tried to keep his distance from Steve Blackman. When Steve tried to lure him into his reach, Shane got away and ran away while Steve chased him around the arena. When Steve finally caught Shane in the crowd, he busted a trash can over his head, then it was all down hill for Shane McMahon from there.
They fought back to the ring and Blackman beat the shit out of Shane with everything he could get his hands on. Trash cans, signs, sticks, and even a leather strap that he tied around his neck and choked him with. Shane McMahon sure took a beating, but Test and Albert came out for the save and they all ganged up on Steve Blackman. They triple teamed Steve for a good few minutes until he started to fight back, but the numbers game caught up to him.
They tied the leather strap around Blackman’s neck and drug him up the rap. But, once Steve Blackman got his hands on a kendo stick, he finally had an equalizer. Blackman took out Albert and Test, then finally had Shane right where he wanted him. Right when you thought Shane had no where else to run, he started to climb up the stage set. Blackman followed him up the stage beams and they had to be at least fifty feet in the air. I’m afraid of heights, so there is no possible way I’d climb up there, but I give huge props to both me for just climbing up there. Shane though, didn’t have such a pleasant time coming back down. Steve Blackman followed him the whole way up to the top with the kendo stick still in his hand and he hit Shane with it as he trailed behind.
After a few back shots with the kendo stick, Blackman gave Shane one last hard shot, which made him fall the whole way down through the stage. My goodness that had to be scary. But, to make it worse, Steve Blackman jumped off the stage set and elbow dropped Shane. Steve laid his arm over Shane McMahon and pinned him to become the new Hardcore Champion.
This was one of my personal favorite hardcore matches ever. Yet, it wasn’t too hardcore. We barely saw any weapons other than kendo sticks and trash cans among other little things, but those two finishing spots top anything that will ever happen in any Hardcore Championship match. Shane McMahon is a madman for doing that spot, huge props to go out him. Will we ever see anything close to as crazy as that? The only way to find out is to come back next time for more of The Hardcore Files.
