Flatline [Pro Wrestling] holds what is being billed as their final event at Patriot’s Park in Grovetown GA on 3/5 featuring Anthony Henry vs Devon Wright (Chris Wiggins), Jacoby Boykins vs Shane Hexxon in a steel cage match, plus Owen Knight, Ethan Case, Billy Brash, a 4-way ladder match and more. While I previously wrote that this would be the final Flatline event, the change in wording to “final event at Patriot’s Park” is appropriate. I do know the promoters are interested in securing a different regular venue for future events, but nothing has been announced as of yet. To thicken the plot, a new promotion has announced a card for 5/7 at Patriot’s Park. The promotion is called Pro Wrestling Bushido; already advertised for their debut event is Cedric Alexander, Peter Kaasa and Harlem Bravado.

Empire Wrestling announced this past weekend that they will be leaving their regular venue in Rossville GA after 3/19. That show will be one of their quarterly mega-cards, Tooth & Nail. Empire always turns it up several notches with their mega-cards, and I can only imagine this one will be quite memorable. Don’t count the promotion out, however; they do plan on returning after a short break. I received this official statement from the promoter on Tuesday evening: “Empire Wrestling has grown over the course of five years. We have learned many difficult lessons over this time. One of which, is the down side of maintaining a venue. Empire Wrestling has its eyes fixed firmly on the future, with growth and expansion planned. More details will be released in the coming months.” In addition to the regular Saturday card this weekend, they will be having a special Fan Appreciation night on 3/4, with all seats just $5.

Todd Sexton announced that he will be retiring from in-ring competition, as well as retiring from his position behind the scenes, at the Why We Wrestle card on 2/27 in Cornelia GA after losing a match to Mikael Judas. Sexton has announced his retirement several times in the past, but it is believed that this time it will stick. Sexton has been integral behind the scenes in Cornelia for most of the last 10 years, first as an assistant to Bill Behrens and then as booker. The promotion held the second round of their Heavyweight title tournament last weekend, and round three takes place on 3/12 with Judas vs Geter, Se7en vs Stryknyn, Billy Buck vs Chip Day and Seth Delay vs Kevin Blue.

Peachstate Wrestling Alliance announced the brackets and format for their tournament for the Heritage title (their primary singles title), which was held up following a match between champion Jimmy Rave and Sal Rinauro. First-round matches will take place on both 3/5 and 3/19, and the tournament finals will be on 5/21. Seventeen men are entered in the tournament, including a “wild card entrant” Simon Sermon. Should a scheduled tournament match end in a double disqualification, double countout, time limit draw or by any other means without a clear victor, then Sermon will take that spot in the tournament bracket.

Big Time Wrestling had a sellout crowd at the Spartanburg (SC) Memorial Auditorium on 2/27, with a small number of fans reportedly turned away, Capacity for the venue as it has been setup for BTW is somewhere between 1,200 and 1,500. The night before, the promotion had a huge crowd in Raleigh NC, with reports of as many as 5,000 fans in attendance. In Spartanburg, the double main event saw two steel cage matches, with The Rock & Roll Express beating The Powers of Pain and Matt Hardy retaining both his TNA World Heavyweight title and the OMEGA Heavyweight title by defeating Ethan Carter III. The promotion announced a return date for 8/24.

Looking Ahead

Atlanta Wrestling Entertainment announced that their 3/20 card will be at the Campbellton Road Community Center. Their big event in April, Homegrown, is also scheduled to take place at the new venue; that will be on 4/17 and features Sami Callahan, Tommaso Ciampa and Shane Strickland.

Southern Fried Championship Wrestling made a couple of announcements this week about their big annual card known as Shindig. Shindig III will take place on 6/4 in Monroe GA. Jimmy Rave will face Slim J on the card; also announced are Cedric Alexander and David Young.

On 3/12, NWA Smoky Mountain will hold a benefit card for former wrestler Bryan Wayne in Elizabethton TN. Wayne, who wrestled as Big Bubba, “Playboy” Bryan Wayne and Mr. Happy, recently lost his home to a fire. While this card is technically outside of our coverage area, I wanted to make note of it. When I was looking to get involved in wrestling twenty years ago, Bryan was one of the first wrestlers to talk to me (on American On-Line) and even as recently as a couple months ago put in a good word for me with a promoter. In addition to the benefit card, a GoFundMe has been set up at

(DISCLAIMERS: I have worked for WrestleMerica, Peachstate Wrestling Alliance and NWA Atlanta in the last year, and have a financial relationship with the owners of Empire Wrestling regarding the Scenic City Invitational. This column is intended to feature ALL promotions in the region, and I will do my best to remain impartial and cover promotions regardless of whether or not I work for them or are in their “good graces”. For purposes of this column, the “southern U.S.” is defined as cities and towns within 180 miles of Atlanta.)
