NXT TakeOver: London Preview & Predictions

Ahead of tomorrow’s TakeOver special in London, we’ve got an all-star panel here at Wrestling With Words that’s going to take a look into the action and give you our predictions! On our panel this time around, we have Al, Tanner & Brady. The current advertised card for TakeOver is as follows:

  • Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder (c) vs. Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady – NXT Tag Team Championship
  • Apollo Crews vs. Baron Corbin
  • Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax – NXT Women’s Championship
  • Asuka vs. Emma
  • Finn Balor (c) vs. Samoa Joe – NXT Championship

Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder (c) vs. Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady – NXT Tag Team Championship

Al: I feel like this match will lead to a moment that’s been a long time coming for Enzo and Cass. While Dash and Dawson are a fantastic team and I do enjoy their throwback style — just straight beating the crap out of an opponent – Enzo and Cass have to do something big here. For as long as they’ve been a part of this tag team division, they’ve been one of the most over acts in the history of NXT. My prediction? I’m looking for Enzo and Cass to finally get the win here when it really counts. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them take the loss in this match and eventually move up to the main roster. It could go either way, but my gut tells me they’ll be walking out with the win here.

Tanner: Dash and Dawson has probably been my second favorite tag team ever to work down in NXT, I just love their gimmick and everything. They really impressed me in October in their match versus Balor and Joe. I just can’t get too hyped up for an Enzo/Cass match. Not because I don’t like them, just because I’ve never really had a reason to care. I expect this to be another solid contest with Dash and Dawson going over and hopefully setting up a match with Jordan and Gable for the next live special.

Brady: Big fan of both these teams. Very excited to see this match happen, and I could see this being the underrated match of the night. I have no doubt in my mind that these guys will put on a fantastic tag team match. The thing here is, I’m stuck on who’s going over. Dash & Dawson haven’t held the championships for that long, so I’m not sure if they’ll drop the titles here. But, Enzo & Cass are running out of options. They need a win here or else they’re doomed. Unless WWE is planning to bring them to the main roster soon, I can’t see these guys losing. So, I’m taking a risk and saying we’re going to get new champions.

Enzo & Cass: 2
Dash & Dawson: 1

Apollo Crews vs. Baron Corbin

Al: I’m very intrigued by this match, personally. On one hand, you have a supremely gifted big man in Apollo Crews who just does some truly jaw-dropping moves while in the squared circle. On the other, you’ve got this towering, slugging, ass-kicking badass in Baron Corbin. One thing is for sure in this match: It’s gonna be a hard hitting brawl. It’s a shame that Corbin hasn’t really been able to get his footing ever since losing to Samoa Joe back at TakeOver: Brooklyn. I’m looking for that trend to continue at London for The Lone Wolf, as I think it’s almost without question that Crews will come out on top.

Tanner: Big Baron has improved a ton this year in my eyes and Crews has been on a hot streak since debuting at TakeOver: Brooklyn. I feel bad for Corbin as he seemingly never goes over when it comes to these big TakeOver shows, and I do not expect this one to be any different.

Brady: When these two got into a feud, I was the most excited person on the earth. Two of my favorites in NXT clashing against each other should make for one hell of a match. We’ve seen verbal altercations between these two these past couple weeks, but last week they were in a tag team match against each other that ended up turning into a brawl. The brawl lead to these two fighting to the back and not being seen again. Tensions between these two are rising and I’m going out on a limb here to say this could possibly be Baron Corbin’s best match when he takes on Apollo Crews. We usually see Corbin in short matches, but at TakeOver, I’m pretty sure they’re going to have a lengthy match, and Apollo Crews is going to pull something special out of Corbin. That being said, Apollo Crews is undefeated and I think it’ll stay that way. No way Baron Corbin is ending his streak.

Apollo Crews: 3
Baron Corbin: 0

Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax – NXT Women’s Championship

Al: Nia Jax is in an interesting situation here for someone so new into her WWE career. I’ll go on record to say that I’m not a fan of the Nia Jax and Eva Marie pairing, mostly because Nia is getting by proxy. While I’m confident this will be a good match between the veteran Bayley and the relative new comer and absolute monster known as Nia Jax, I’m almost positive that the championship has to remain around the waist of Bayley. She has nothing to prove in NXT at this point, but I don’t think she benefits by becoming involved with the mess on the main roster known as the Divas Revolution.

Tanner: Bayley working someone outside of the Four Horsewomen on a live special is going to be real odd for, but I think Nia Jax will make a great opponent for her. Jax is the huge woman who looks like she could absolutely destroy Bayley, which will just cause the fans to get behind Bayley even more than they already do. I expect this to be a solid match with Bayley retaining her title.

Brady: I’m most looking forward to this match. Bayley is on fire right now, she has the fan base, she has the talent, she has the championship, but, Nia Jax comes in and is absolutely destroying the NXT women’s division one by one. There’s not much I can say here, because I have no clue what direction NXT is going with this feud, but I’m hoping they have Nia Jax demolish Bayley. I love Bayley, I want nothing but success for her, but it’s Nia’s time now. I’m hoping they put the strap on her.

Bayley: 2
Nia Jax: 1

Asuka vs. Emma

Al: Ever since Emma came back to NXT since flopping hard on the main roster, I’ve been a fan of hers. She’s not only revitalized herself, but her career as well by turning into an absolute bad ass woman. Emma has clearly benefited from the association of Dana Brooke, and while I’m thoroughly enjoying the mean streak of NXT and WWE’s first Australian diva, I don’t see any conceivable way that she’s able to pick up the victory over Asuka. I’m actually betting on a knockout victory with a vicious kick for Asuka. This will be Match of The Night, without a shadow of a doubt.

Tanner: Personally, I am looking forward to this match more than any other match on the card. Asuka has looked nothing but dominant lately and Emma has always been really good in the ring. Looking forward to Asuka finally getting a competitive match with someone on the roster!

Brady: In a weird way, I’m actually looking forward to this match. I can’t pin point why exactly, but I’m interested. As we saw at the last TakeOver special, Asuka defeated Emma’s friend and tag team partner Dana Brooke. I know Asuka will put on at least a good match with Emma, but I can’t see it lasting very long. I predict that Dana will try to interfere, but end up accidentally costing Emma the match. Asuka will probably knock out Emma since that’s what she’s been doing lately on NXT TV. Nothing too hype about this match; but I’m at least interested.

Asuka: 3
Emma: 0

Finn Balor (c) vs. Samoa Joe – NXT Championship

Al: Finn Balor has had a relatively easy track thus far as champion, if you think about it. He’s one of the few men who can actually boast a victory over Kevin Owens during his NXT tenure, and has defended the title against essentially no one. I’m not too, too excited for this match. I’d like to think this will be the curtain call for Balor in NXT. What else can the man do? The only thing left for him would be a potential feud with Itami when he’s able to return, but that’s a guessing game at this point. Samoa Joe will, in my mind, undoubtedly walk out of London with the NXT Championship firmly around his waist.

Tanner: Okay, I am actually really excited for this match. Balor has made me a fan of his NXT work after the Dusty Tag Tournament and Samoa Joe has finally returned to someone resembling his old self, just great stuff. I’m sure Balor/Joe has a hot match in front them just waiting to happen, and with the added hype of the UK crowd this is going to be good. I don’t see Balor losing the title right now, as he is just keeping it warm for Itami when he returns.

Brady: As you saw in all of my other match predictions, it’s hard to call who’s going to win. In a lot of these matches, it could go either way. This is another one of those matches. I’m loving the new attitude of Samoa Joe. We saw him turn his back on Bàlor and attack him, choke him out, and basically make Finn his bitch. Last week, Samoa Joe knocked out Finn Bàlor at the end of the show. That ruthless aggression of Samoa Joe is what I’m loving right now. Finn Bàlor is not aggressive enough to tame Samoa Joe and that’ll be his downfall in the match. But, I don’t expect him to lose. My prediction is that Samoa Joe gets too wild, too aggressive, too crazy, and gets himself disqualified, costing himself the championship.

Finn Balor: 2
Samoa Joe: 1
