WOOOOOOOOO KING OF DDT MADE TAPE! THANK GOD! I am so happy this made air but still so sad the first round of matches didn’t. Oh well, I wish I could have the will to live some days but you just can’t have everything in life can ya! I am so pumped for all of these second round match ups especially KENSO vs. HARASHIMA because I believe KENSO could actually have a good match for once. I do think KENSO is good but he is very blah, HARASHIMA could pull something out of Mr. KENSO that has never been seen before. I don’t know what I am saying anymore. Let’s watch the wrestles.

Sanshiro Takagi & Toru Owashi vs. Daisuke Sasaki & Mad Paulie vs. Keisuke Ishii & Kouki Iwasaki vs. Yasu Urano & Shunma Katsumata**3/4

This was exactly what it was meant to be and it served its purpose. Nothing I really need to write home about at all. The match was focused around Daisuke Sasaki and his new pet Mad Paulie who is known to independent puro fans as Masato Shibata. Sasaki was just being a little shithead as usual and getting the crowd into the match by making himself look like a fool. There was a big tandem suplex that even the referee took part in. Iwasaki was pretty great, his kicks were really on target. Katsumata is a little pocket rocket and makes everyone look good. In the end Shunma taps out to a face-lock from Sasaki.

Konosuke Takeshita, Antonio Honda & Hiroshi Fukuda vs. Yukio Sakaguchi, Masa Takanashi & Kota Umeda***

This again served its purpose much like the first match. This was the workrate tag match. This was trimmed down to about 7 minutes but from what I saw it was really good. Sakaguchi just straight up kicking folk is always a good time. Fukuda’s singing in this was beautiful, he is such a glorious human of this earth. Takeshita doesn’t feel like the ace but he is still performing very well and I am enjoying his KO-D run thus far. Umeda was kicking the head off Takeshita, I have never seen such a wonderful combination of kicks and strikes from the young dude. Happy Motel used the bionic elbow at the same time which popped the crowd. Shortly after Takeshita pinned Umeda with a German suplex hold.

King of DDT Second Round: Tetsuya Endo vs. Kazuki Hirata***1/2

My goodness this was tons of fun in more ways than one and I didn’t even mean to rhyme! This match featured hilarious comedic spots as well as outstanding counter wrestling. We were also blessed to be able to witness a full Kazuki Hirata entrance. We were robbed of the TOKYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO dance because as Hirata was getting jiggy Endo hit a phenomenal forearm on Tokyo’s prodigal son. This match more than ever I can see Endo is heavily influenced by “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles. He uses many of Styles’ offense including the phenomenal forearm, pele kick, torture-rack power bomb, sky twister press and so on and so forth. I really loved how Hirata was basically 100% serious and wanted to win. Hirata got about three very close near-falls that had the crowd on the edge of their seat. Endo advances to the semi-finals with his sky twister press.

King of DDT Second Round: Soma Takao vs. Shuji Ishikawa***3/4

THE FOREARMS THAT ISHIKAWA DISHED OUT HERE WERE GODDAMN DEVASTATING HOLY SHIT! I feel like I should start off by saying Takao brought the fight to Shuji right away and killed him with chairs and a double stomp on the outside but HOLY SHIT AT ISHIKAWA’S FOREARMS. They were so loud and brutal it made me cringe and many of the DDT faithful in the crowd as well. Besides ISHIKAWA’S FK’N FOREARMS this match was really good and showcased both men. Ishikawa come off as a big towering beast as always and Takao came off as the underdog that just won’t give up no matter what. Takao unleashed a superkick party of his own. Shuji’s so over it’s insane, like whenever he hits his knee strikes all of the crowd reacts. Takao did manage to knock down the Japanese Big Dog a few times with a massive FOREARM and his Celtic cross like maneuver. Takao was able to kick out of numerous knee strikes and a fire thunder driver but he ultimately fell to Shuji’s Splash Mountain.

AJPW Sanctioned All Asia Tag Team Championship Match: Yuko Miyamoto & Isami Kodaka (c) vs. Danshoku Dino & Makoto Oishi***1/2

This was a fun ass match. Yankee Two Kenju are my favorite team going around today so them against anyone is bound to be a good time. I was so confused when Dino and Oishi received a title shot but I wasn’t complaining. It’s Japan and it involves Isami Kodaka, anything can fucking happen. I didn’t expect this to be a great in ring contest just because of Dino’s gimmick revolves around his ass and not on wrestling all that much. I was proven wrong though, Danshoku Dino worked the mat with Yuko and it was glorious. Other than that he used a lot of ass based offense and some crazy running elbow attacks. Yuko and Isami were 100% serious and didn’t want to put up with Dino’s shenanigans. Lots of lip locks from Dino but by god Isami and Yuko would not give up to the vicious kisses from Dino. Oishi was full of fire, he hit a tornado DDT and a top rope Asai moonsault. The finish was hilarious, Yuko reversed Dino’s piledriver and turned it into an Axe Guillotine Driver which is basically a reverse pile driver. Yuko pinned Dino which means he got Dino’s right to challenge anytime anywhere so Yuko called out Takeshita and set up a KO-D championship match for 7/3.

KING of DDT Second Round: KENSO vs. HARASHIMA***1/4

Okay Mr. KENSO you weren’t too bad here at all. You did do some low blows and make a ref bump occur but other than that you were completely bearable and for you that is a star in your book. KENSO did some cool things in this match, he did a weird ass plancha, took a superplex and acted like he was on cocaine. The crowd really did not want to get into KENSO one bit but every few seconds KENSO would tell the crowd to clap and Japanese crowds being as respectful as they are took part. HARASHIMA was great as always with his kicks and strike combinations. KENSO got two very close near falls after a brain buster and a back slide attempt. KENSO’S palm strikes were very over mainly because it makes a loud noise. In the end HARASHIMA put away the former rival of John Cena with a brutal SOMATO.

KING of DDT Second Round: Kazusada Higuchi vs. Shigehiro Irie***3/4

Really good main event between DDT’s two biggest hoss style performers. This wasn’t any of that KENSO shit. This was two bulls running at one another and hoping for the best. This was a BJW type of match and by that I mean there wasn’t any low points to the bout. It was all impact with high intensity. The first damn spot of the match was both guys running at one another with lariats. Both dudes have tremendous lariats. Irie’s Beast Bomber is actually my favorite current lariat in pro wrestling. Higuchi no sold a back drop on the floor and hit a lariat. Irie is so fucking great, he is one of the best people ever. I wish Shigehiro Irie was my best friend, but oh well, I have to deal with Trask. Irie got multiple near falls with his splash from the top and numerous Beast Bomber lariats. Haguchi is really a modern day Akira Taue, very large man but uses his strength and size to his advantage. He is much more smoother than Taue which isn’t a slight to Taue at all, Taue’s awkwardness actually worked really well. What I found really odd was that Yuko Miyamoto was Irie’s second ? What sort of relationship do those guys have other than being some of the coolest mother fuckers in wrestling. This was a mini fortune dream chop battle, these guys went ham at one another with chops. Irie did the flash elbow strikes to try and pin Higuchi like he did Ibushi at Shinjuku Face a few years back but this time he was unsuccessful. I really liked the finish of Higuchi tapping out to the Tazmission. WHEN Irie makes the finals of King of DDT he will lock that in and people will think it’s over. Really good stuff here.

Great DDT show! Nothing bad at all, everything was good-great. The final four in the King of DDT tournament are Tetsuya Endo, HARASHIMA, Shuji Ishikawa and Shigehiro Irie. The semi-finals and finals were held today. I will have a review of that show when it makes air. Endo is facing HARASHIMA and Irie is facing Shuji. Those matches seem great. Thank you for reading!
