EVOLVE 84 and 85: Previews and Predictions

EVOLVE 84 – Watch: at 12:30 PM PT/3:30 PM ET/8:30 PM GMT

Fred Yehi vs. Jason Kincaid

Two of the most unique wrestlers on the scene at the moment going at it. Yehi fresh off splitting from Catch Point and Kincaid returning after missing last month’s EVOLVE weekend. I’m not expecting anything too crazy here, just something that will do a solid job on the undercard and work in establishing Yehi as a singles guy. Prediction: Fred Yehi

Lio Rush vs. Austin Theory

Rush has been fantastic since his return to EVOLVE over WrestleMania weekend. Theory, while extremely talented and has a great look, hasn’t been quite as impressive and is starting to get lost with this Priscilla Kelly storyline. It’s two athletic young guns that I would think want to go out there and kill it. I’m fully expecting a Lio win here. Not just because he’s heading into a title match the next day, but to further this weird Theory/Kelly story. Prediction: Lio Rush

Tracy Williams vs. Jeff Cobb

With a newly aligned with Stokley Hathaway version of Williams and Cobb’s return to EVOLVE after being gone since February, this is one of the more interesting matches on the show because either man winning wouldn’t really shock me. This will no doubt be a good match, maybe even a great one depending on how much shine it’s given, but as far as a prediction for who will win, this is honestly a coin toss. Prediction: Tracy Williams

Keith Lee vs. Donovan Dijak

After stealing the weekend at EVOLVE 81, Lee vs Dijak happens for the 2nd time in EVOLVE, but really this matchup has become one of the more sought after matches in all of wrestling and with that comes even higher expectations. How will they manage to top their encounter at 81? I have no clue, but all I know is that I’d be shocked if these two don’t deliver something spectacular and a worthy addition to their growing rivalry. Prediction: Donovan Dijak

EVOLVE Tag Team Championship: Chris Dickinson and Jaka (c) vs. Matt Knicks and Isaias Velazquez

Because this EVOLVE weekend is in conjunction with Freelance Wrestling, we’re getting two Freelance regulars in there for a title shot. I don’t want to undersell Matt Knicks, who’s very good and very talented, but the guy I’m most looking forward to getting a spotlight shone on him is Isaias Velazquez. Isaias is the best guy in the US who doesn’t travel much outside of his home area or home promotion. As someone that’s super high on Isaias, how he does here is the real point of interest in this match for me. Prediction: Chris Dickinson and Jaka retain

EVOLVE Championship: Zack Sabre Jr. (c) vs. Ethan Page

The story between Page and ZSJ has been going on since November of 2016. Page and his desire to bring chaos to EVOLVE brings out the mean streak from the typically calm “Technical Wizard”. With their last match ending with a reversed decision in favor of Page, Page interrupting ZSJ’s moment after winning the EVOLVE title, and attacking him once again after ZSJ retained against Lio Rush last month, there’s a lot of fuel to the fire here. Their first two matches together were better than I expected them to be so I won’t be shocked if they deliver something very good/bordering great. Prediction: Zack Sabre Jr. retains

WWN Championship: Matt Riddle (c) vs. Kyle O’Reilly

When this match was first announced I was already excited for it but after seeing these two face off on OTT’s Marble Zone show, I can’t wait for this. O’Reilly has been out of this world since returning to the indies and Riddle is Riddle, it’s nearly impossible for him to have a match that isn’t good. This pairing has shown great chemistry already but in a big spot like this, I think they’ll deliver even bigger. Prediction: Matt Riddle retains

EVOLVE 85 – Watch: at 5:00 PM PT/8:00 PM ET/1:00 AM GMT

Allysin Kay vs. Priscilla Kelly

Kay is very good and Kelly is usually pretty solid so from that standpoint this will be a decent match, but the main thing I’m curious about is how they present Kelly here on her first match on an EVOLVE show after randomly appearing and getting involved in matches for a few weekends now. Prediction: Priscilla Kelly

Chris Dickinson and Jaka vs. Jason Kincaid and Austin Theory

I’ll be completely honest, I have no interest at all in this match. Random team thrown together does nothing for me. This will probably be fun, but I can’t really say any more than that. Prediction: Chris Dickinson and Jaka

Fred Yehi vs. Keith Lee

Man, I am amped for this one. This is going to be a great big man/little man dynamic. It’ll be two guys jocking for positioning for title shots so that what makes the winner of this interesting. This another one that’s hard to give a strong answer to but I will be more than happy to just watch this one play out and see these two have a great match. Prediction: Keith Lee

Ethan Page vs. Donovan Dijak

I’m not too sure on how this match will play out. Since I predicted Page will lose his title match on the previous night, he’ll be looking for some revenge here against Dijak. No reason this won’t be a good match but the fallout of the last show is what’s more important in this one I’d say. Prediction: Ethan Page

Tracy Williams vs. Kyle O’Reilly

Another match that on paper has potential to be fantastic. Both guys are excellent on the mat and can bring the violent striking when needed so I’m expecting a snug, hard-nosed battle between these two. One thing to keep in mind here was Stokely trying to recruit Kyle not that long ago. One has to wonder if that gets brought up at any point here. Prediction: Kyle O’Reilly

WWN Championship: Matt Riddle (c) vs Jeff Cobb

Finally, after three months, the follow-up to Cobb attacking Riddle at EVOLVE 78 in Joppa will happen. I’ll admit that while their previous matches have been good, I think they have something much better in them and I hope this weekend they show the full potential I think they have as opponents. Prediction: Matt Riddle retains

EVOLVE Championship: Zack Sabre Jr. (c) vs Lio Rush

This is the weirdest match booked for this weekend because going back to this so quickly as a title match just seems really fishy. Although they made it a point that ZSJ couldn’t beat Lio by submission, him getting this rematch after just losing a title match makes me think this ends in some screwy fashion, more than likely involving Ethan Page. From a match quality standpoint, I have no doubt this will be great, but I have a feeling I’ll be waiting for the interference to happen in this one. Prediction: DQ or No Contest
